Festividad Virgen de la Candelaria
Every February Puno is home to the Virgen de la Candelaria Festival, one of the most dynamic folk religious festivals in Latin America. On its main days the city's churches and houses are decorated in bright banners and the streets are covered in carpets of flower petals and play center stage to processions. Endless parades of musicians and hundreds of dancers dressed in bright customs and extraordinary masks perform traditional dances like the famous Diablada, in which dancers try to dramatize the struggle between good and evil.
The city of Cajamarca is vibrant and filled with excitement during its annual summer carnival. Each year thousands gather to see its parades of allegorical floats and dancers in bright costumes as well as its traditional yunzas. The carnival also famously celebrates, with thousands of spectators, the arrival of the Ño Carnavalón, their King Momo, to Cajamarca as well as his burial in the historic Baños del Inca complex.
Ayacuchos's February carnival is full of colors, music, costumes and fun-embracing folk tradition. During these days locals take the streets in a series of colorful parades with floats, dancers and musicians, streamer and gift-filled yunzas, food fairs where their typical Puchero and chicha jora are tradition for the celebration as well as innumerable parties with live bands.
