Every year thousands of pilgrims of all ages and social classes form a sea of people arriving on foot from all parts of Arequipa to pay homage to their patron saint, the Virgin of Chapi. Some walk many miles to her shrine despite its desert climate and worshiping her in prayer and song during most of their journey.
