Lima – Huancayo, The world’s second highest train ride

Go on a marvelous train ride from Lima to Huancayo, and stay 2 nights in the charming highland city. This tour takes you to a part of Peru that is little known to tourist and is definitely off the beaten path. The train only runs twice a month on specific dates and takes you through the mountain pass of the Andes Mountain Range reaching a thrilling 16,689 feet above sea level (5,056 meters). You’ll arrive to Huancayo refreshed by the gorgeous scenery and ready to enjoy more of the beauty of the Andes. Here you’ll spend two nights where you are at leisure to explore on your own and get to know this lovely city.

Itinerary:

Day 1: You will be picked up at your hotel at 6:00am in the morning and be taken to the train station where your long and beautiful train rides departs at 7:00am. The train takes you through 12 hours of gorgeous landscapes changing ever so often to give you a glimpse into the rich diversity that Peru has to offer. You’ll get views of the Andes that are truly breathtaking and top out at 16,689 feet (5,056m) above sea level, making this train ride the second highest in the world. Upon your arrival to Huancayo you will be picked up from the train station and escorted to your hotel.

Day 2: Today is yours completely to do as you please. Huancayo is a small town with a lot of culture to offer. We suggest visiting the main plaza or if you are more interested in archaeology there are a few sets of ruins to check out. The town has many parks that feature cultural icons in unique ways. Also, if you happen to be there on a Sunday the city has a very unique market this day that is a must see.

Day 3: This is your travel day back to Lima. You will be picked up at your hotel at 6:00am and escorted to the train station by your private chauffer to catch the train at 7:00am. Here you can relax and reminisce about your unique experience in Huancayo and catch all the views you missed on the way there. Enjoy the train ride back to Lima where you will be picked up from the train station and escorted to your hotel in Lima, refreshed with new memories to share with your loved ones!

This contest is open for adults who are 18 years of age or older. The competition starts Thursday, February 9, 2012, and ends at 12pm UTC time Wednesday, February 29, 2012. The winner will be announced on March 2, 2012.

All contest entrants must fill in all the personal information, including their actual names and a valid e-mail address.

The prize of this contest is a 3 day/2 night trip from Lima to Huancayo on the 2nd highest train in the world, including 2 nights superior accomodation in Huancayo. There are limited departures on the train, and the competition is only for departures on the following dates: April 28 - 2012, May 12 - 2012, May 26 - 2012. Because it is not possible to reserve tickets in advance without knowing the name of the travelers, we cannot guarantee any specific date of the three we have listed as available. If all train tickets are sold out, we will offer an alternative prize (however it is not assured that this price represents the same value).

Estimated value of this tour for 2 people: $US 750. By going on this trip, you also accept the Terms & Conditions of Peru Experience as stated on their webpage.

Competition not void where legally prohibited. Installation, insurance, registration, taxes, and any fees or costs associated with the prizes are the sole responsibility of the Winner.

One one entry per person. The name that you register with in the contest must match the name in your passport/DNI.
