We will visit a series of sites that represent different eras of the city’s rich past including: Plaza San Martín, the most beautiful square in the downtown area built in honor of Peru’s 100th anniversary as an independent nation; Casa Aliaga, the oldest family owned home in the Americas; Plaza de Armas and its surroundings, San Francisco Church, the Government Palace, the Cathedral and the Santo Domingo church; Casa Osambela, a colonial home owned by the top merchant in Lima during that era; Hotel Bolivar, to learn how to make Peru's national drink, the Pisco Sour, and try it out for yourself.

I had a great time walking around Lima's downtown - it's like a stroll through the past (with a lot more traffic!). The colonial downtown is such a contrast from the modern city of Lima. I especially loved visiting the San Francisco Church's underground catacombs with skeletons. The guide was very friendly, super informative, and entertaining.
