If you are craving for a tranquil retreat in beautiful surroundings, this serene mountain lodge in the Cordillera Blanca is a magical oasis to recharge the batteries and enjoy the unspeakable beauty of nature.

This 6 day & 4 night trip allows you to sit back and enjoy a cleansing getaway from everyday routines. You will be in the midst of an overwhelming nature, where you can go on meditative treks, do rock climbing and mountain biking, canoeing on the lake, stargazing and much more.

This mountain lodge is right on the edge of the Huascaran National Park, situated between Llanganuco and Rajururi gorges, adjacent to the lake and ruins of Keushu, nestled on a plot of 5.6 hectares at 3503 meters above sea level.

Llanganuco Lodge sits on the slopes of the Cordillera Blanca, the highest tropical mountain range in the world. The lodge has spectacular views of the three highest peaks in the range: Huascaran North (6664m), South (6768m) and Huandoy (6395m), along with many ice peaks to the south. Of course the sunsets over the Cordillera Negra mountain range to the West are simply incomparable.

The location provides unparalleled access to the Llanganuco and Rajururi gorges, these gorges are gateways to the National Park. The Llanganuco gorge is the premier attraction of the park and is an easy 25 minute walk. Here lie Pisco, YanaPacha, Chacaraju & Chopicalqui Mountains, Lake 96 – a world class day trek, the Llanganuco lakes and the Maria Josefa pre-Inca trail, which winds down through the cloud forest from the Chinacocha lake back to the lodge.

In the Rajururi gorge lies the lowest ice in the Cordillera Blanca at only 4000m. The Lodge is the ideal spot to acclimatize in comfort before undertaking some of the most awe inspiring treks in South America.

ITINERARY

(+ night before): Night bus from Lima to Huaraz, arrival at the Mountain Lodge

 

You will be picked up early in the evening and taken to the bus station, where you will go on a direct bus to Yungay in the Ancash region. Of course you have VIP tickets with great comfort all the way. In order to get the most out of the trip we recommend taking the night bus from Lima to Yungay, located about 1 hour from Huaraz. As you arrive around 7am the next morning, you will be picked up and taken up the winding mountain path towards the lodge, a steep taxi ride of approximately 1 ½ hours. It is also possible to take a an early morning bus on day 1, please advice if you prefer this option.

At the lodge you will be welcomed with a cup of coca tee, or any other beverage that you would like. Afterwards you have a couple of hours of relaxing before enjoying a rich lunch in the beautiful nature.

At noon your room is ready to check-inn, and you might want a short siesta before going for a short walk around the lodge, or simply staying in with a good book in hand enjoying the breath-taking mountain sceneries. Dinner is at 7 pm where all guests gather in the cozy dining house for a delicious meal and storytelling from the day of adventure.

Activities around the lodge

 

The next 5 days are of leisure in and around the lodge, either relaxing in the lodge, going on moderate but adventurous day hikes around the lodge, or challenging yourself with more strenuous hikes, rock-climbing, or mountain biking. There are a lot of activities to undertake, below we just mention a couple:

Recommended day activities:
The Inca trail to Chinacocha lake in the Llanganuco gorge: A 5 hour hike with moderate requirements to fitness.

Lake 69 trek: A 5 hour hike + 1 hour taxi ride with moderate requirements to fitness.
Condor Fortress: A 5 hour hike with high requirements to fitness.
Portachuelo to Llanganuco Lodge: A mountain bike tour of 3 to 5 hours, starting from Portachuelo where you will go in a taxi (please note that there is a cost for the mountain bikes, the tour guide, and the taxi to Portachuelo).

At the lodge you there is a long list of the different treks which you can do from the lodge. Please advice if you would like this list with anticipation, and we will send it to you.

Returning to Lima

 

In the morning or late afternoon, depending on your preferences, it is time to leave this little paradise on earth, and begin the trip back to Lima. You will be picked up at the lodge, and taken down to Yungay in a taxi where you board your bus for an approximate 9 hour trip back to Lima. When you will arrive in Lima, and a taxi will be waiting for you and take you to your hotel.

More about the lodge With home-style hospitality, this Mountain Lodge offers two different types of accommodation, either superior rooms or deluxe suits with baths, fireplaces and down duvets.

Internationally-trained chefs offer critically-acclaimed cuisine each day. Breakfasts, pack-lunches and a 3-course supper with wine or beer are provided each day, always depending on what fresh local products are available. All accommodation is full board.

The lodge’s crystal clear water is from a mountain spring which has been certified by the University of Huaraz for human consumption. It is one of the few places in Peru where you can drink the tap water.

The lodge is a perfect place to visit all-year round. The traditional mountaineering season is May to October, with July and August usually the best. However, contrary to popular opinion the area is a wonderful place to visit all year round for all other sports or just to relax. Visiting outside the busiest months is very rewarding as you can trek for days without seeing another soul and could have great weather too!
