When you come out of the airport you will be met by an English speaking chauffeur who will drive you safely from the airport to the location of the Cusco Saphi Hotel. This hotel is located around 5 minutes of the Plaza de Armas in a quiet neighborhood. Its a very tranquil and relaxing area to stay.

This 3-star hotel is located in what used to be an elegant colonial residence. Throughout the hotel you’ll find a charming contrast between this imperial city’s rich history and modern convenience and comfort. The spacious rooms are an invitation to rest, offering the ideal place to refuel and start a new day of exploration and discovery. As was characteristic in large colonial residences, the hotel has two interior patios where our guests can relax during a sunny afternoon or enjoy a soft breeze at the end of the day.

Cusco

Sitting at 11,000 feet in the Peruvian Andes, Cuzco is the undisputed archaeological capital of the Americas. Cusco, which in Quechua means “navel of the world,” was once the political, military and cultural center of the Inca Empire. Today, it serves as a center of Amerindian culture, a perfect testament to its pre-Columbian and colonial history. Every bit the Andean capital, it is home to vibrant festivals like Inti Raymi, archeological sites such as Ollantaytambo and the legendary Inca Trails.

Cusco is simply a breathtaking city. It has history, culture and landscape. It is charming, fascinating and friendly. Within walking distance from the city center you can visit Sacsayhuaman, an ancient walled complex, which provides a magnificent example of Inca architecture and stonework. It’s a 20-40 minute walk from the Plaza de Armas, and also the location of the annual Inti Raymi Festival. From there, hike to the Cristo Blanco (White Christ) for a panoramic view of the city.

You can appreciate the rich colonial history of Cusco wandering the charming historic streets, immersing yourself in its Baroque and Renaissance churches and mansions. Another must do is walking up from the Plaza de Armas to San Blas where you will find the famous San Blas Church a ceramics museum, the Religious Art Museum and a vibrant artisan, bohemian neighborhood of cobblestone paved streets, filled with coffee shops, gourmet restaurants and galleries.

Leaving Cusco, you may wish to head toward the picturesque Sacred Valley of the Incas with its fascinating temples, royal palaces, sacred centers and beautiful scenery. If it is adventure you seek, Cusco offers the perfect setting for mountain-biking, river-rafting and trekking. And of course, Cuzco is the gateway to Machu Picchu and several other Inca ruins like Choquequirao, Tipón and Pikillacta.

The Imperial City – as it is also known – has a vibrant night life seven days of the week and many pubs, discos and other entertainment options. It also has an interesting selection of gourmet restaurants – which have recently been getting lots of recognition and international coverage- and lots of charming cafes where it is easy to unwind after the end of a day of adventure.
